The late evangelist Dr. Billy Graham and his wife used to drive into Black Mountain from their nearby home in Montreat for meals at some of the many fine restaurants in this pretty little town. They were just like normal townsfolk in the friendly little town they loved.

Okay, I have a very real question. And before anyone gets offended, charge it to my head and not my heart! This looks to be a predominantly Caucasian town. Are the people here friendly to all outsiders (visitors)? My daughters and I love historic little places with tons of character, history, and all of what is mentioned in this video. However, I'm not a fool to the ways of our world. And I make it a habit to visit places that welcome all. All honest and true answers are welcomed. I just haven't seen any people of color in any of the videos for the town.

Well done, it was a great Fall that year

If we look beyond the history, we will also find relevant Black History. Great piece. As a visitor to Asheville, NC I was shocked to find that Black people owned the land where the Biltmore Estate was built. That is all too common throughout this country but sadly true. This all needs to be an honest part woven into American history books.

You're welcome to visit, but please don't stay. The fragile ecosystem that is the southern Appalachians is under extreme development pressure from people moving to the area. Real Estate prices are so high, gentrification is pushing out the creative local community that that once made the mountains so special. In spite of the hype, there are no jobs here. Unless you're fine serving beer at a brewery or cleaning hotel rooms--neither jobs however will pay enough for you to afford to live in the city limits of Asheville... Deforestation under development pressure is so rampant that we can no longer use our old slogan, "Cool Green Asheville" now, it's much more like "Hot, Brown, Asheville." So yes, please do come visit, you're always welcome, but go home and spread a little bit of the mountain's love into YOUR community, and make changes there for the better, as you, dear tourist, aren't really welcome here to stay.
